I'd imagine Nokia is keeping a eye on all the new battery technologies... Too bad they all have their own problems. And even with good reasonable working tech, it takes time to get stuff into state it can be mass manufactured for cheap prize.

On Behalf of Joe Average everywhere, let me say I got as far as the words "nuclear isotope' and thought "Not in my bloody pocket!" Especially given which pocket most gentlemen carry their phone. (Indeed, a man with a nuclear isotope in his pocket would be on my 'no chance' list... and I'm less squeamish than most from living in a radon area!)

That's an idea that may be sheer genius, but will need so much marketing it will never catch on!

There are some places I simply wouldn't want anything radioactive. My breast pocket is only one of them.

lets just say, that:

Working prototype or it is just as good as fission/seawave kinetic energy harvest/fairies/whatsoever.

before fully working prototype there is no need to "chuck quids" or any company will surely go bankrupt no matter how much money it has. because i'm certain there's at least hundreds of similar solutions that work on a sketchbook but possibly never make it to working proto.

Ain't gonna happen in my lifetime. That battery currently puts out 16 nanowatts. You can get more than that just by walking through the earth's magnetic field with a coil of wire.

On the other hand, Nokia can harvest 5 milliwatts from ambient radio waves. That's three hundred thousand times as much.

It's sad that people immediately associate the words "radioactive" and "nuclear" with "cancer" and "holocaust". It's a significant cause of the world's impending energy crisis.

One might as well associate the words "coal" and "petroleum" with "cancer" and "war"--it would be more relevant and more appropriate.

There are hundreds of amazing portable energy production technologies farther along the pipeline than that one. Turns out it's not as easy to do most of that stuff in a consumer-tolerable way as the inventors initially thought. I can't count how many times i've heard fuel cells mentioned as being "tomorrow's battery" in the last decade, yet they still haven't even reached the point of consumer availability in anything pocket-sized.
