It took me 2 days to figure out that I wasn't inserting a space after "cd"

Everything in your instructions went well until...

when I got to "...../device/" and pressed tab it imediately gave me my mac addy

"# cd /etc/osso-af-init/gconf-dir/system/bluetooth/device/00\:\17\:E2\:49\:CC\:58/"

At the end of that ^ line I typed "ls" then tab…. Then nothing

If I hit enter it gives me:
“/var/lib/gconf-dir/system/bluetooth/device/00\:\17\:E2\:49\:CC\:58/ #”
Then when I type “ls” and TAB I get:
“\%gconf.xml
/var/lib/gconf-dir/system/bluetooth/device/00\:\17\:E2\:49\:CC\:58/ #”

I’m sure I’m doing something wrong and will figure it out eventually (I told you I was slow like that, lol)
...until then any hints or encouragement will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :haveadrin
Yes, it's ok. I think everything's right. You've listed the file %gconf.xml. Now it's time to make a backup of it, before editing. Go on.

When you're in the right directory (as you now are), just 'ls' and return is fine, the TAB is only to pre-see, in a way, what just 'ls' would show you.. anyway, 'ls' works more or less like old 'dir' in MS-DOS.

Back up done...

and I have entered the editing environment about a dozen times to make sure I have it right... however, I'm not so sure this is the right configuration file.

It lists entry values for device name, trusted, Supported profiles, Cell type, etc. but nothing for what I expected. In fact the only numerical value listed was "520" ???
... and what appeared to be a hex offset of "0x1112".

^this info appears in the control panel dialog under "Phone".

The "User Name", "Password", "Dial-up number", etc are found in the connection setup dialog for a connection under "Connectivity" on the control panel...

Is there somewhere else I should be looking?
