arde there any recipe apps for maemo. or maybe an app that lets you mix and match clothing and then purchase them from different websites. and maybe an app that teaches proper cleaning techniques. then it would truly be for girls. lol

    EDIT:

After I installed gstreamer-tools, this worked on my n800 with qole's Easy Debian:

    Code:
    gst-launch v4l2src ! ffmpegcolorspace ! videoflip method=4 ! autovideosink
Can someone compile that as a widget, please. Joanne Plumber (Joe's g/f) would find it "soo kewl!"

    (Seriously, great idea!)

The correct line is with ffmpegcolorspace on the N900, too, so

    Code:
    gst-launch-0.10 v4l2src device=/dev/video1 ! ffmpegcolorspace ! videoflip method=4 ! autovideosink
Note: you'll need the gstreamer0.10-plugins-good-extra package, which is not included on default installs (at least on the prerelease N900s).

EDIT: There seems to be a noticeable vertical line on the right side of the screen. It's quite noticeable and doesn't look like a scratch, more like an electronics readout issue or some gstreamer funk. For those with preproduction models, please start gstreamer as specified above and report back whether you have this readout problem on your device or not.

Should I be serious here? Why not - and these are things that are mostly "n900 is for people"

    1. flash support - iphone "has flash" but special stand-alone programs have to be made. http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2009/10/iphone-flash/ . Why does this matter? Women are a notable part of casual gamers http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/lifestyle...t-casual-games

and yes iphone has lots and lots of casual games, but now you can play the exact same games on your phone as on the laptop or desktop, and you probably don't have to pay a buck for each either ;P. Points if it's possible / easy to keep the games locally.

    2. Comes with TV-out - iphone has TV out but you have to buy a separate accessory. With n900 you already have that, to show pictures or home videos on TV.

    3. flash support + tv out - This means hulu right? Hulu requires flash 9.0.115 . I have not tried hulu at all. Also maybe try to convince them to get a desktop app http://www.hulu.com/labs/hulu-desktop-linux TV out means you can start watching something, pause it and watch it later on the device when you're not at home

    4. no drm - I show my ignorance, but someone tell me but how easy is it to get video you may have legitimately ripped yourself onto other high end smartphones (Yes it can be legal!)

    5. Running stuff in the background - way yes on multitasking.

    6. resistive touchscreen - can use stylus and not smudge screen (yes this bothers some people)

    7. screen resolution - good for pictures, movies, real web browsing

    8. remote access if it works reasonably ;P Can use your smartphone from your desktop w/out having to keep switching between the 2. Maybe that's just me.

Can't think of a lot else which is specific to the hw / OS ... for more female friendly I would suggest a purse with a built in pocket like for laptops, so that the case and screen don't get scratched and you don't have to unzip a case to use it. Also a way to personalize the phone look - different cases or decals I guess. Different keyboard sizes might help too.

Oh yeah, and I just requested boxwave to have stuff for n900. Suggest everyone else does too, they are full of win.

I object to that! It's obvious that the N900 is especially well-suited for stuffed animals. Capacitive screens don't work with fabric paws.

Precisely my point. N900 is for bears too.

Yes, I did have the bear in mind too.

Although I keep having to look at that cute picture very intently, for my (small) dirty mind always conjures up quite a different image when someone mentions bears. Oh dear...
