We're a non-profit organization that provides educational information to people in developing countries who cannot afford/get the Internet. (See http://www.widernet.org )

We would like to serve mirrored Web sites from an N810's built-in memory, but the thing is positively manic about hookng up to the Internet or any wireless network, creating a pop-up window on every click.

Can someone help us figure out how to disable the Internet and still use the browser for locally-stored content?

I'd gladly compensate your time.

Best regards,

-- Cliff

This seems to deserve a bump.

He's right: no matter what configuration you choose in the Connectivity control panel, when you try to go to an html file on your N8x0, the NIT starts asking you about what Internet connection you want. It seems like someone who knows his stuff ought to have an easy way, something you could run in Xterm, to tell the unit not to try automatically connecting.

This has been a known problem for a while. If you could describe your use cases in bug 1767 it might help Quim push this issue forward. Bugs 339 & 2931 are also relevant.

You may be able to get it working with a "dummy" connection in place, see bug 3306 for details. If that doesn't work you could try an ad-hoc WLAN connection (but that will drain your battery).
