I read the thread about N900 battery and I got an idea. Since smartphones should look and feel nice, the OS is enhanced with many animations. But don't these require much energy?

What do you think: How much energy could be saved if you can disable non required animations and how hard is it to implement?

konttori has written an app, transitioncontrol, which will disable the animated transitions. See http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=30936.

Yes, but you won't save battery (much) by turning transitions off. IMO, the transitions in Maemo 5, by default, are more than just eye candy -- they really do indicate what's happening very nicely.

Whatever you do, this phone is made for browsing so it would make sense that its battery life isn't going to be that long. I'm actually thinking about buying another battery.

If it's made for browsing there should be an extra high capacity battery! Why do you think there's no need for a good battery if you can browse well with a smartphone?
