Sorry but I didn't have the time to go through the extras-testing instructions. Busy morning and I put my community time on the Brainstorm stuff. Tomorrow, if nobody stepped in before.

X-Fade mentioned at the summit that there was already a project in the works. First I'd heard of it, although perhaps I misunderstood.

It was going to be a store-like application using the downloads API.

I've got 9.08-11 which is writing and communicating to testers. I think there are five things needed:
 1. A full-blown specification of the process which forms the basis of X-Fade's implementation. This is http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras-testing (?)
 2. A friendly (i.e. low-text, high clarity) document telling people how to test applications in Extras Testing.
 3. A simple bullet list of MUST, SHOULD and COULD items for testers. i.e. "MUST have a 48px XB-Maemo-Icon-26", "SHOULD have a XB-Maemo-DIsplay-Name", ...
 4. A variety of small improvements to the UI of /packages/ (such as emphasising the version number in the QA view), hand-in-hand with #2. This includes a link to #3
 5. A friendly document telling maintainers how Extras Testing works. This is some of http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras-testing

Up until now, this is the first time I've seen this collateral list indexed. Without being clear on the audience, the chances of coming up with a good document(s) is slim.

Thoughts?

Not sure, if we´re talking about the same thing. But I think Daniel Wilms is working on a qt app for downloading/installing/rating apps. Not completely sure, though...

Human society does not work this way. You do not get result if you do not motivate humans.

300 people got N900s at Summit and apparently aren't interested in helping at all.
What does testing a package give them? Not to mention the current voting UI...

So, karma for rating packages?

Add another option... "Anytime", please.
That's simply not true. At least for me it's not known what the state of stuff in extras-devel is supposed to be. I install and try a lot of stuff, but the maemo way of handling bugs found in extras-devel is still a mystery to me.

As a newbie to the community, it would help to do this in a form of a marathon, thus learning the community practices on this.

Plus, it's more fun together than separately.

There's currently 0.25 (I believe) points for thumbs up/down and 1 point for a comment

I'd say this is the garage project for the application: https://garage.maemo.org/projects/appmanager/
