Tried this on my 770. Everthing untars alright but when I run ldconfig, it does something in the background and leaves me at the prompt. No menu entries. After a reboot, no menu entries. (I was really confused when you guys were saying 'now start WM' - - 'uhh how?').

I was still under 'sudo gainroot' when I ran ldconfig. Is this an issue?

I missed the fact that you have to be in / when you do the untar so none of the files ended up in the right place. Did you do something similar?

Since my other thread is being ignored :-). Has anyone who has done the dual boot on a n800 not had the fat partition auto mount in the system when booting from the ext2(3) partition of the same card. Or not be able to access anything on the mmc/sd your booting off of via usb?

Andy: I did that at first but corrected it afterward (removing the source files which were in the wrong place). Still nothing after running ldconfig.

I don't think ldconfig does anything to the menus. In fact, looking at google, it's to do with configuring run-time loading of libraries.

If you look in /etc/others-menu/extras_applications do you see a file called 0779_WMaker.desktop or 0780_BWMaker.desktop?

I do, but only Maemo Stars (Which I've uninstalled) and Dope Wars are appearing. That's just bizarre!!! I'll see if I can rearrange the menu from the config section.

    Edit:

So I checked /usr/share/applications/hildon (where the links were pointing to) - - no targets! Now I'm confused. I don't know where they are.

This is very interesting and promising, but extremely hard to follow in a forum thread, especially since some talk about the N770 and others of the N800.
The way to do this is to create a WIKI where the experts can put step-by-step instructions arranged by device.
