That is some really interesting information. Thanks.
I've been here a couple of years, and frankly, I don't understand why Nokia's so shy about maemo.org, either. I wonder if they think it is too "wild and woolly" over here?
I mean, they're spending some not-so-small amount of money on us (thank you very much!) but I get this constant feeling that the business types see maemo.org like this rogue, bastard step-son that is expected to end up with no pants and a lampshade on his head at parties...
In general, I think people coming here find these forums (and the rest of maemo.org) to be helpful and useful. Why is this something that users of the N900 have to stumble upon through Google when they have a question about their new device (and yes, every time I google for answers about anything Maemo-related, answers in these forums come up at the top of the results), rather than through Nokia?
In any case, welcome edgedemon, and I hope you stick around!
Thanks for the answer, as for sticking around, I wont be going far - I have a n900 on pre-order
There is not a single mentioning of Maemo or N900 on the Finnish Nokia website at nokia.fi. Or you have to really search for it.
If I am interested in the N900 - and I know it is the Nokia's next flasgship model - I would first look for it at nokia.fi. But I only see Ovi ads, Nokia Booklet ads and N97 Mini ads. Why isn't Nokia pushing Maemo - and especially N900 - on its webpages?
There is maemo.nokia.com - I would assume there would be a link from every Nokia website to the Maemo webpage.

I was given my N800 about 2 years ago by a friend who purchased an iphone. I played with it for a while and then set it aside for almost a year.
I decided to fire it up again exactly 1 year ago, and stumbled upon these forums. I can tell you that it's thanks to this community that I've stuck with it, fell in love with the device, and now depend on it!
This introduced me to the world of linux as well to the point that I decided to scrap windows all together on my desktop computers. :P

There was a big ad banner for N900 after the Nokia World in the end of september "Available for preorder now!". Then again during the maemo summit (if I remember right...).
I guess they have enough preorders for the N900 for now
And Nokia has a lot of new products/services to promote for.
