F3-F9;F12 seem to be owned by the tablet for the hardware buttons. I want, for example with MC, to be able to use the real f-keys on my bluetooth keyboard.. any way to break the links?

afaik there isn't. i suggested this in the developers list during maemo 1.x, but still no progress on nokia's part.

Try ESC-ESC-[number]. That apparently works with the virtual keypad, so no harm in giving it a shot.

BTW, what bluetooth keyboard do you have? How come it has real function keys?

I have the stowaway bluetooth.. its undocumented but the Fn keys are blue FN + homerow.. starting with a(f1) and working down to enter(f12)
