MPD, who claim to be the first in the UK for the n900 via nokia retail stores have been accepting pre orders for both t-mobile and vodafone for the last couple of months, so that article is a bit inaccurate.
I ordered my n900 from them with a t-mobile contract last month...

I just called Nokia UK at 0845 045 55 55 a minute ago for the Nokia N900 and the lady told me that the phone will start shipping the 19th of November.
So it is a great news.

Unfortunately, what this ace journo hasn't realized is that this is the standard answer that you will get from any of the admins of the Voda forums. No matter what phone you ask about, it's always "we haven't heard anything, but keep checking the coming soon page'.

I hypothesize that this article was written towards the end of the working day. Journo dutifully rings up Orange, O2 and 3. Discovers it's 5.28 and he's still on hold for the Vodafone marketing department, thinks to himself, "fsck it, I'll have a quick look on their customer forums instead". Job done, out the door like a cruise missile at 5:30, propping up the bar with a pint by 5.32.



Edit: In response to the question originally posed by this thread, the answer is "No it bastard well didn't", as I suspect will be the case for the next 6 days at least.

I just got off the phone with one of nokia representative and he said that nokia already shipped out to those who preordered and should receive the phone next week. However, i preordered from Amazon and just talked with them a minute ago and they said that they don't know when it's going to be in stock. This is really frustrating because it looks like the end of November is when they're starting to ship the phone and we can play with it next month

I called the NYC flagship store. They said they don't think they'll have them in by this weekend (I'm passing through NYC on Saturday), but they're taking people's names and numbers and promising a call when then get them in.
