Is this available for the N900?
Negative, at least not yet. First, AbiWord uses Gtk+, and I'm not sure that's even supported by Fremantle (the version of Maemo that comes on the N900) since as far as I'm aware Nokia has switched completely to using qt for all the UI components. Second, even Gtk+ is still supported, it simply hasn't been compiled and packaged yet.

I might make a package for the N900 later, but as I don't have an N900 to test it out, that will be lower on my priority list. I'd like to fix bugs and implement new/better features first.

Maemo 5 (Fremantle) is still GTK+ based. The move to Qt is for Maemo 6 (Harmattan), and even then, GTK+ will still be available.

Thanks for your work on this. Shame you couldn't get in touch with Hubert, as he seemed to be doing a lot of work getting it ready for Maemo. Still, at least with open source someone else (possibly you!) can take over this.

I can't download the file.
Can you please add a more "regular" mirror.
You can use rapidshare or mediafire

Thanks again

Alright, looks like my 770 gopher rig is rather unstable. Here's a temporary Rapidshare link until I put it up on my main server:

It seems like it's disappeared, but some of the original code from 2005 is still at the heart of the current release.

I attempted to install abiword via the rapidshare link in the post above. It would not complete the install and gave me an error message that application pkgs. where missing. specifically; libfribidi0 (>=0.10.4-6). Does anyone know where I can get this pkg or a download of abiword that will install. I'm a new user/n810/diablo latest version.

Thanks in advance for your help

I've never understood why the Abiword devs don't focus most of their efforts on mobile devices. The main advantage with Abiword is that it is lightweight and fairly fast. On every modern laptop and desktop (yes, even netbooks) this is irrelevant, since MS Office and OpenOffice run just fine.

The only place left for Abiword to go is mobile. And I've never understood why they don't see that. Where do they think their market share is?

Anyway, thanks, earksiinni, for picking up a ball that shouldn't have been dropped in the first place.
