I've been an observer on this board for a while and decided to make an account so I can try and contribute come December when I get my N810. I'm 16 and my parents bought me an N810 off ebay for Christmas (I just snuck into my moms closet and held it; love at first sight). My question is, given you guy's extensive experience with third party apps, what would be good applications to install right off the bat. I plan on using the N810 to stream media (mostly videos and music, no pictures) from our home server to the tablet, playing games (I've seen some sweet emus), GPS (how does maemomaps hold up on the N810 vs the bundled software?), and some basic word processing, and lots of web browsing.

Anyway, I'm ecstatic to be able to finally have an N810, having wanted the N800 before that, and the 770 before it. Thank you for the time you spent reading this and hopefully the time you spend replying.

God Bless

I just realized I probably should have put this in Applications, not OS 2008. I apologize.

Hi, and congratulations.

I realize now that the usages you lined up aren't the ones I use mine for the most. I can still tell you a bit about what I like.

For music, I think I'd recommend to test Canola2 first. Video, well, I have ended up using whatever was installed at the time, so I have no good advice.

For the web, there is one alternative browser that I use in addition to the rather good default one. And that alternative is Tear.

When it comes to GPS... Sorry, kid. My experience is that the GPS is mostly a source for frustration. But there are a few apps, maybe someone else has a tip or two.

For word processing: I don't actually know.

If I had to reset my N810, these applications would be installed before I started using it again:

For Instant Messaging: Pidgin
For eBooks: FBreader
Calendar: Seqretary
To access/control the desktop PC: VNC Viewer
Also Personal Menu, that one extra menu is handy.

welcome hsmalls, you're going to be amazed by this thing! don't give up on the gps yet. i find it good to have, even in a big city. i find maemomapper, mytube, seqretary, fbreader, sdictviewer, xournal, tuner, gizmo/gvoice, the built in media player, and many of the built in aps really useful. i love reading books on the device. searching this site helps a lot.

Thanks for moving this into the correct spot. My mistake.

And thank you guys for your replies. I don't know how I'm going to wait it out until Christmas but I do plan on looking into those apps.

Thanks a lot
