True. I think the terms are a bit sloppily used. If you check Nokia's own page with the product info, it is generally referred to as "Video calling," without specifying what kind of calls. As you so clearly point out, there was no GSM on the previous tablets so the only type of video calling available was via the internet, which I tried to specify by calling video chatting. Personally, that's the only type of video calling I'm interested in anyway.

I agree 100% that we need it. Video chatting over voip would be the N900 killer app. However it's not listed as part of the N900 on Nokia's own comparison page with the other Nxxx tablets.
This feature alone would steal a great chunk of customers away from iphone, driod. Are Nokia clueless not to make this number 1 priority to drive Xmas sales?

The operators would absolutely hate it though..
I agree. In fact, I would be one of the customers that the N900 would steal away from the other platforms. Without it, the major attraction of the N900 is gone, to me.
I can understand why they didn't include it. As you so succinctly state, it's a threat to the operators.
In the three days I have been visiting this site I seem to be finding more and more about the n900 that is giving me second thoughts (of course if Nokia didn't keep pushing its release date back they would have already had my money by now).
I assumed that this was a function that was in the phone and I was going to be using this for skype video calling instead of using a laptop. Surprised to hear it doesn't have this feature. So what does the Skype in the N900 do? Is it just a chat service like msn? Can you at least make calls with it when wifi connected and not have to pay phone call tariff to your mobile phone operator?
He also mentions the FM radio not working for him. Lack of video calling (I assumed google talk etc worked like with the N800) and possible problems with the radio are big concerns for me.
How is this news - its been known for a very long time that video calling would not be in the N900 at the start. I agree it would be cool for say skype etc to be able to use the front camera. Have never actually made a video call myself so can't say I will miss it that much.
