On my 770, I have created a new system on mmc as explained and boot well on it. After untar your file on / on mmc, the first reboot on mmc work well. But when I chose the menu to switch to OPENBOX, the screen became white forever ! The only action available is the power off button to shutdown the system. And after, when, on multi-boot menu, I choose the mmc2, the progress bar increase to ~80% and stop forever too!
Have you any idea about this?

Penguinbait: Thanks for the further clarification, but Im still confused about which of my two operating systems I'm supposed to be in when performing all these operations -- the MMC or flash. Such as, when I download the OPEN-ROX and the others, where am I doing this from or to, the MMC or the flash?

jlbrd, did you install python before, starting openbox?
download bzip2 or (bzip2.gz and run gunzip bzip2.gz)
mv bzip2 /usr/bin
download tar or (tar.gz and run gunzip tar.gz)
rm /bin/tar
mv tar /bin
Now, run
cd / <--- dont forget this
tar jxvf /path/to/file/OPEN-ROX6.tar.bz2
, it will uncompress to about 100MB
