If it already can handle the Firefox, Thunderbird can't be that far from working on it as well, can it?

modest Email on my n800 has search, I would assume that the n900 would use modest or something better. Also the global search on my n800, allows to search files, emails, bookmarks and contacts, so I would assume the n900 would have similar features.

Are some of you saying the n900 doesn't do this?

I've added to Brainstorm Sandbox
http://maemo.org/community/brainstor...emo_5_devices/

Rather than just searching within email, it should have system wide searching capability like other Symbian devices ie N97

Not yet in the first release, but they are working on it.

This is what i find so worrying about Maemo 5: They dropped features that were there in previous versions and that many of us would take for granted on a Maemo device. Search in Modest is only one. I really wonder why, as in most cases the underlying technologies didn't change. - Maybe it's a case of "can't think of a UI for this function ATM, so remove the function".

Yes I agree, it's like all these checkboxes I would expect to be filled in are not. I can speculate that it's speed over perfection: Get the device out, now, now, now! So they've focused on making certain key functions, things that will impress in the press, and the user community, such as the browser, work really well, and then left the rest to be patched up over time. Or perhaps Nokia mobile phone management wants the community to develop these things. You know how, if you struggle to attain something, you value it much higher afterwards. So if stuff is from the community it's valued even higher, creating an aura of "ours" around the N900, or possibly even "part of me is in this device." Or perhaps they just had a really tiny budget. Nokia hasn't been doing too well lately.

I don't really see how Thunderbird's user interface would work on such a device - and fennec is a special mobile version of Firefox on the device.

Maybe the Evolution version for netbooks (cannot remember the name, something with a*) would work. But still needs to be ported.

Anyway, I still can't search email on my G1. No biggie to me and I'd bet the N900 will get it soon.
