I just stumbled over this (German) article, which also mentions the N900.
Nokia is still market leader, though.

This is in German, so translate.google.com might help.

This is an old one of some stuff that surfaced in the USA. Apparently the reason for profit is the iPhone is cheap and sold at a huge wad. Also Apple doesn't split out its earnings so there was some doubt on the accruacy of the assertion.

To translate a bit for you guys. In 3rd quarter 09. Apple made 1,6 billion dollars revenue only with the iphone while Nokia only made 1,1 with all of their phones.

I think the main reason is the Apple tax on the app store and on the cell phone contracts.

don't forget that apple kind of skipped the part where they needed to license gsm and wlan technologies

Well they went through Foxcomm so Foxcomm already paid the licensing. I believe Nokia did the same thing to Qualcomm.

    This is hardly surprising news!

Have you even SEEN the iPhone contracts????

By how much are Apple milking people!!!!!!! Bunch of bloody conmen, selling people crappy H/W and charging them alot of money for the privilege.

the ONLY good thing about the iPhone is the web browsing, the apps address features that should already be included in the phone.
