Not to be rude, but I think if you don't know already then stay well clear!

Basically they are where new apps that are being tested/under development are uploaded, so heed the warnings that are posted because you will probably do more harm than good by using these repos.....

That being said - we need testers

LOL well yeah, but this site is going to get full of "How the hell do I fix this now" threads if everyone starts testing from devel

But point well made, I'm pretty new to linux/maemo (decent windows user instead), but after about a month or so of reading about the subject on here and having a play with a new linux OS I've installed I think I could start to test. But I would definatly still advise people to stick to the extras if they are very new though.

My plan for the first few occasions is going to be to volunteer personally to the devs of certain things - that way they get a tester, and I get someone I can run to if it all goes toes up. The 'Community' aspect of it all.

And it took me a couple of weeks to realise it was 'fremantle' not 'freemantle' as the predictive typing kept suggesting.

Yes, but ALWAYS put a BIG warning before sending normal users to Extras-Devel or Extras-Testing. Installing unstable software can create a very bad first impression for new users of Maemo / Linux / Open Source.
    Please see http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=343619 .

For people interested in testing (turn your device into a brick, lose all your data, and have lots of fun while doing that) see http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras-testing .

I think that is a really good idea, is there anyway we can organise this? I guess that some testing will be more advanced for certain apps. Extras-Devel = more advanced than extras-testing, I understand thats the way its works. (Flow path --> Devel --> Testing --> Extras)

Suppose my question is could we organise testing on a user level basis? Or do you think all testing should be done by people in the know

Just as a side note, I would be up for testing for individual devs as well.
