you can set your presence for Skype, just like SIP and IM

And what is the difference between this and Google Voice.
A phone number is not required to use Skype "in network".

They both are Voip applications. Skype is proprietary while Google is standards based and compatible with other voice providers. I used Skype for years, other voice providers are much cheaper and offer more features (that Skype charges for). On my N800 I now use Fring which allows calls to/from my provider, but also combines my IM clients, twitter feeds and Skype contacts within the same interface. It's amazing how my use of the N800 has changed over the last several years.

Hmm, what's to stop someone from switching to a Data Only plan and use Google Voice to forward to Skype? (For those of us that have already fully transitioned to GV)

Could that be done?

Has anyone actually gotten skype to work from their n900 yet?

I got the monthly US & Canada subscription and can make calls from my computer fine, but whenever I try from my 900, it says "Incorrect address" and then stops.

There is a bug reported about missing country/area codes but all of my numbers have them. Do I need to have skype credit?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You need skype credit for making calls to regular phones - I believe that skype to skype calls are free.

The bug with missing country numbers was that all numbers needed the +<country code> before the phone number for example in the USA
