I am inclined to agree, if only because most web developers who are worth their salt can pick up python and be fairly proficient in it within a few weeks, and let's be honest, there's a hell of a lot of web developers out here...

Python can't be a killer feature because even Android could host Python if they added it.

The fact that you can have Python, or Ruby, or Erlang/Haskell/Lisp, or your own custom language on the phone with full access to a standard Linux userspace that doesn't require battling the hardware or software to get there is the killer feature.

Speaking of web developers, how many mobile devices can run a browser with add-on capability?

It seems to me that this is another easy entry point into Maemo development and increasing functionality.

As the article mentioned, Android is adding Python but only as a macro like language, not for full application development. You are probably right in saying that the power of being able to have just about any language that one cares to port over is the most important characteristic of Maemo. However, that ability is too nebulous for it to be considered a feature. I still think that Python is the most important implemented feature so far on the N900.

Just having bit of a fun with a reference to a Monty Python skit. Python was named after Monty Python.

I thought about using this picture too:

But the killer rabit stole my heart.

And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceedest on to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it." Amen.
