Ok I do not know what to do any more....
I have try 3 different sd cards, reflash the device, read every article in the world about this dual boot, try fsck...., and I am doing everything by the book! but it just get stuck in different points when is doing the tar transfer I have no F clue what to do any more. ic my cpu go of the roof when it get stuck.... And again is just me this SH is happening too.... I do not understand how can the same devices behave differently. F this I am going to leave it overnight just to see what the hell happens when I wake up... maybe I do not have a N800 any more... and to think I only bought the N800 just for this and I am unable to accoplish what I want... another paper weight.. I am back to my N770.
end of F rant.

Well you posted tons of stuff without any real information to troubleshoot this so it is hard to help. If you see errors from MMC driver in kernel log (dmesg command) while using the card it looks like bad card or bad MMC slot/buggy N800. Try to read or write whole card via dd to verify the card works fine. If not, this is the end (i.e. use different card or N800). If card is really OK then post what exactly you did and what errors you got. Some output you posted looked like out of disk space so either mount failed (so you cloned from internal flash to /opt in internal flash) or mmc partition is not big enough or the tar -C /opt somehow didn't work and files did not go to /opt.

fanoush Thanks for the reply....
Here is what I get in dmesg when I try and do a transfer to the card that is 10MB...

[ 1291.776275] mmci-omap mmci-omap.1: data CRC error, bytes left 0 (CMD-1)
[ 1291.776580] mmcblk0: error 2 transferring data

And then the system crashes.
I am going to try a 4 GIG card wich is a name brand and not a cheap card like the other and see what happen.

fanoush,

It is confirm the problem is in the cards...
I was able to move 5.5MB, 10MB, 15MB to the 4GIG card with no problem.

Can I partition the 4GIG card in to 2 GIGs each so I can do the back up?

Thank You.

This doesn't look good. Looks like n800 is a bit picky about cards. I too have one (Transcend 4GB MMCplus) which work in everything else except the device I bought it for - N800.

Yes you can repartition cards and the guide written by sebastian describes how to do it via sfdisk. You can also do it in usb reader in linux PC or over usb cable with N800 connected. But I guess the error above can be in any data block (even random) so partitioning may not help.

I agree... the cheap SD cards from Microcenter (12.99) do not work with the N800 at least my 2 cards... But the OZC 150x 4GIG card works flawlesly. I am going to fdisk the card to 2 partitions of 2 GIGs each and try it out.... I ask first because knowing the stock kernel of the N800 does not support the 4GIG cards I didnt want to partition them and lose the 4GIGs.

Thank You fanoush
