You must be new to the English language. "With comprehensive codec support" means that you need to have the codec installed for the specific file you're trying to play.
And incidentally it does supports many codecs, infact I would even go as far as to call it's codec support quite comprehensive

If you say something has comprehensive support, people are, quite reasonably, going to think it has it, not it has the possibility to have it added.
'Decent' codec support would have been fine, 'comprehensive' is an exaggeration.

correction: the summit firmware didn't support ac3 - but the sales device (with fw 42-11) supports ac3 out of the box. just checked it with two ~700mb xvid/ac3 movie files.

It seems that Nokia lied one way or another - either it supports the files in Extra's Testing for use by end users or doesn't have comprehensive codec support.

- afaiu, ac3 is apparently supported out of the box. i have simply updated to the sales firmware (42-11) and the xvid files with ac3 that previously didn't play, now do.
