Sorry, I managed to miss the "only" part (still, this is all on their website). When I looked at T-Mobile, I never found any reference to a contract with their "T-Mobile Total Internet" plan for $39.99/mo (shown on Internet & Email Plans). Which is probably what you want. But you should call them to double check. T-Mobile phone help is quite nice. If you just want to order it, you'd buy that plan and then find the SIM Card only option for device. (Or go to a T-Mobile store.)

You can do data only on the N900. It's called T-mobile total internet, and costs 39.99 per month...no contract. unlimited web and email. voice and texts are extra.

SO if I was basically just adding data to a family plan, I would have to call them to add a smartphone plan, which is 24.99?

I am just wondering if anyone has try the DATA ONLY plan with Tmobile before and how does it go.

Don't bother with the smartphone plan. You don't need it. I'm currently using the old $5.99 T-Zone plan, and I'm enjoying some good ol 3G/3.5G(data of course) unlimitedly. Basically, just add their $9.99 plan. There's absolutely no need to waste an extra $15.

I switched over from Verizon a couple months ago now. The guy I initially talked to when signing up for the plan was the most incompetent tech support guy I've ever talked with, but every other interaction I have had with T-Mobile has been top notch.

+When I called asking about switching from the 300 to 600 individual plan (so I would get night minutes) they said, "oh, since you've only got 2 weeknights left in this billing cycle, we'll leave it how it is so you don't have to pay for the extra partial month. The 600 plan will start next billing cycle, and if you end up with overages, call us and we'll work it out". Saved me maybe $4

+When EMP came out, I asked to switch to it. They said "sorry, it's only available contract free." I was ready to be bummed out, but the rep immediately said I could be switched over (despite having bought a subsidized phone+2 year contract) for a one time $35 fee. This will save me $10/mo or $195 over the life of the contract, plus, no more contract!

+The same rep that switched me over also waived the smartphone data requirement and let me on the $10/mo plan. I'm not sure if I get 3g with this yet or if any ports are blocked, so I might switch to the smartphone data plan later, but this will save me at least $30.

+Because I switched plans, I was concerned that I might lose out on the $50 credit I had coming for signing up via contract. Called in, the guy on the line had no idea what plan I signed up under (understandable, since I had to call their business services side to sign up) but said "give me a sec to check your account records" and said he found the $50 mentioned in a note and that he would make sure it's on the next billing cycle.

None of these instances are particularly remarkable by themselves, but taken together it makes me think that T-Mobile actually values their customers, and baring me moving to somewhere without coverage or alike, they've earned a lot of loyalty from me. And decent customer service has saved me $279 with very little trouble on my part - I've never had to escalate a call or alike.

You'll be getting 3G though the 9.99 plan is meant for dumbphones. TMobile usually doesn't do anything about it unless you really stand out in traffic. I know for some iPhones TMobile gave them a choice of either upgrading to the smartphone data plan or they cut them off from the $10 plan..

Some people using the other APN (if you don't switch the access point you won't be able to go to some sites) have been charged but so far it seems random.

Yes, you would be getting 3G coverage. As for limit, I have no idea. Some say there's a 2GB cap, some say it's unlimited, no way to confirm it on my end since I'm not using the same plan. Just make sure you don't tell them it's the N900 you'll be using for the plan, just to be sure, just say you're using it on a dumb phone, a great example would be the razr!!!! As for the other APN, there's always a small chance of being charged.
