Sim card issue just scapegoat, most users have newly sim card average life of 1 to 2 years. Any i had same sim for roughly 17 months and just got a new card from tmobile and tested it with same result with gps off, 3g off wifi off, 2 hours of internet with t-mobile 2.5 speed, back light 1 no widget only shortcut and bookmark on the desktop maybe 10 mins of phone call and last only 8 hours. battery issue is killing this phone, we dont expect to spend 500+ on a phone couldnt last through out the day.
It will take several charge/discharge cycles before the battery controller is able to report accurate state of charge information. Look at the other threads about battery life, run your battery through several cycles, and if you're still unhappy, then trade your N900 in for a Palm Pre. That phone gets about 3 hours per charge - should make you very happy.
Ha ya at least I dont have a Pre lol but still would like to see a fix for this.
The fluctuations in battery life because of power cycles would be nowhere near the kinda fix I need. Your talking max and extra 30 minutes difference, not hours and hours (some people on here say they are using their phone in a similar way and getting 12-20 hours and I get 4-6...
Im thinking it could be coverage in my house, it fluctuates a lot, but still is this something I can fix or should I wait and pray for an OTA?

Ya just got a new SIM and no difference, same battery life, 6 hours though, sucks.
Im wondering if it the fact that signal varies a lot in my house... hows ur coverage where u are? (Im on TMo USA too)

Since you arent on a 3g network, (well since you arent on tmobile) can you also try and set the network type to GSM alone.
Trying to rule out the machine "searching" for 3g connections, if it does something like that.
My piece also seems to have something of a short battery lifetime.. but i havent had a proper chance to measure it.
I am using 3G, I do have TMo USA. And I even turned the phone from Dual to 3G only mode (shouldnt have to turn it to no 3G to last the day).

I today got my N900 and i am about to get 6 hours as from what i can say about the status right now. Maybe less.
I have had 3G on half of the time at least. No wifi, though a 5 hr bluetooth session of data sending(cant get a normal cable transfer session with ovi suite working right now) and half of the time browsing and personalizing. It looks messy but i hope with 3G, BT and wifi off in standby, with no widgets on and all services updating almost never, brightness on 2(for when the screen is on) i will get more than 15 hrs.
I am very certain it has to be able to do that.
Im sure it will, but we shouldnt have to turn off all the features of our mobile internet device just to get it to last the day, right?
I refuse to go get a new SIM card to "increase the battery power" on my phone. Silly.
I have had mine for a week and I cant get more than 6-7 hours and I have turned off wifi, bluetooth, email checking etc. I mean, the point of this phone is to have all that. I shouldnt have to turn it all off to conserve battery then turn it all on for a quick second and then turn it off to conserve battery...silly.
I am putting mine on Craigslist and going back to my E71.
If they are going to produce a mobile computer then add a battery to support it. I do not think an OTA update is going to suddenly make it better...

I am in NYC, always full bar. Maybe wait a while until battery get fully optimize with charging cycle.
