MSN is having issues today. I'm unable to sign in either. But it is an issue with them, not the plugin. I've been using it for days now without any failure or issue.

Conversation is exactly that! The thing that confuses some is you have to use the application manager, activate the proper repositories, and download the plugins that allow access to any missing protocols you may wish to use.

Sounds great! Any word on MySpace IM for us musicians? We like IM too...

Fring should be cool for the rare video chat, but why install it for IM when you have a built in multiprotocol chat client built into the app with full access to the contacts list? I'm able to open my address book and have all of my online friends show up on the top of the list. No need for running an app on top of the OS. Just add the necessary plugins to the Conversation app and voila!

In my opinion, Maemo 5 makes IM applications obsolete, or pushes most of them to add some sort of value added unique feature. I'm glad for this, since too many IM apps for various smartphone platforms clog their app stores. Now devs can move on to real app challenges...

MSN seems to be having issues right now. But honestly, why use Pidgin? Conversation makes it obsolete for the most part.

I don't suggest downloading anything for the N900 from the internet. Its totally unnecessary. Just use the application manager, which will automatically install and update your software for you.

You'll need to activate the Extras-testing repository to get the necessary plugins for Conversation, which does the same thing as Pidgin and is part of the OS. Be advised, however, that Extras-testing apps are still in "beta" stage, and may be buggy and cause harm to your device. I will say the Butterfly and Haze app plugins are pretty stable and you shouldn't have much issues using them.

Is there any program to download that one can get Yahoo and Msn Messenger?? People say use pidgin, but use at your own risk...Anything that I would not have to worry about it bricking my phone??
Use the Conversation app and add the necessary plugins from Extras-testing, but be aware these are pre-primetime apps in that repository, and may do your system harm. The plugins look stable enough, however, and I wouldn't worry too much. See the previous few pages for more info.

All apps for the N900 will be in the repositories of the Application manager. Some repositories will need to be manually added. See above.

Pidgin is not a plugin for Conversation. It is a standalone app that doesn't integrate into the Contact list. Just use Conversation and add the plugins for Yahoo from the Application Mgr.
