Hi guys!
Just got my phone today, but just after 10 minutes i ran into problems.

First of all. I tried to copy some files from a 2gb memory card over to the phone memory. The copy failed and i had to remove the battery and start it back up again. This resulted in a folder on the phone with some damaged files in it. I can not delete this folder from the filemanager as i just get an error saying foldes is read only..

I didnt think anything more about this until i tried to start the camera and take a picture. I can see the image, focus and take the picture. But i get an error message saying operation failed, and the image doesent get stored. If i try to enter the cam app again after this, the image that couldnt be stored shows, and i am unable to take any pictures.. Now what i gods name is happening to my N900?

I tried to flash it, but the folder which couldnt be deleted is still there after the flash.. Somebody have any clues? Thanks in advance!

A reformat of the vfat partition will probably fix it (plug into any OS and reformat). It probably got corrupted, reflashing would do nothing since that's not even the same memory storage.

You need to reflash the 32gb memory. I'm not sure of the procedure for this.

Well it actually worked! The messed up folder is gone, and i can take pictures! But, when i formatted, all the images/themes and the sounds got deleted aswell.. Any ideas on how to get them back? Big thanks to Lauging Man as he litterally saved my day!

Was it the memory card or the built in memory? And what did you do to fix it? Was the memory card empty before? What did you use to format the card?

A good place for wallpapers is www.n900wallpapers.com - some of the original wallpapers are there as well.

You're not the first to accidentally delete images, maybe Nokia should host copies of stock images/themes on their support website.

well when it all went wrong i was trying to copy som old pictures from a 2gb memorycard that was installed in my old N95. I copied the files from the card to a folder on the 32gb storage space on the N900. And thats when it all went wrong.

So what i did was plug my phone to my pc using the cable, the device then showed as a mass storage unit. Then i just right clicked on the N900 and selected format. It solved the cam and the folder issue mentioned.

But i lost the preinstalled "goodies" from Nokia in the prosess though.

Shouldn't you be able to plug it into the PC and then run a repair/scan on the drive via the PC?

That is the one good thing about mass storage, the PC has full access so can do lower level things like fix filesystem errors.

Also is fsck.vfat installed on the N900? That would be an even better way to rectify the problem (needing a PC is never a cool way to fix problems), although you would need to know also how to unmount the partition before doing that.

It should take someone approximately 30 seconds to write a script to do all that for you, if the right tools are available on the N900.

The repair function didnt cross my mind actually. I know about it, but when i got the solution posted here i was to happy about it to even consider any other options.. :| But never the less! It solved my issue, the only thing that remains is to get a hold of the themes, sounds and vidoes preinstalled on the device from nokia
