I've been desperately looking for a video of the Maemo VNCviewer in action on the Nokia N900.
But it seems nobody ever made such a video, or they did not upload any on you-tube.
I have never used a device like the N900, nor have I seen any Maemo device in real life :P so before ordering one I'd like to learn as much about it. To fully compare it to other devices, such as the iPhone 3gs on which VNC works nicely, I was hoping if one of the N900 owners can make such a movie and upload it to share the beauty
I don't own a N900 yet, and not an Iphone either. However, I use vncviewer on my n810. I can only say that here the resistive touchscreen really shine. With the stylus it is actually possible to operate the Desktop UI designed for mouse pointers.
I've been using both N810 and N900 and they are fully usable with vnc/ssh. You may need to practice double-click for a sec, but otherwise it's all right.

In the video you posted you can see the toolbar underneath.
A shame if you ask me, that this is not half transparent or something like that.
Even better would be when it could be hidden somehow.

Another question, do you really have to use the scrollbars on the right side and the bottom to scroll?
It's not very finger friendly of you ask me.
Of course you have a stylus but I like the approach of JaaduVNC for the iPhone better.

Okay, so there is still a full screen option, but that's what I showed in my video complete with the tool bar. When you exit full screen, you see the drop down menu area and the applet box so it's even more crowded.
You can tell it not to display the tool bar in full screen or windowed views, but it ignores you and still displays it.
Although it's probably a blessing in disguise since the N900 has no hardware full screen button, if you went full screen with any application that had no on screen key to un-full screen (like the web browser has), then you would have no way to exit the app or access the menu functions.
You can hide the scroll bars to free up screen space, but you really need them to move around the targeted desktop, unless that desktop has a resolution smaller then 800x480.
Overall, it's fully functional and still the best VNC viewer interface I've used on a mobile device (the stylus really make it useful compared to the iPhone version), but the screen real estate does make it feel more crowded then the N8XX version even with the same screen resolution...
I installed VNC on my N900 and my PC runiing Win 7 . I see the N900 connected VNC server on my computer but it's black on my N900 . So there is a problrm with win 7?

That's what I thought, it looks pretty crowded if you ask me.
And that it ignores you when you choose to hide the toolbar sounds like it hasn't been fully optimized for Nokia n900 since the option to choose from is still there. I don't see the n900's lack of a hardware fullscreen button an excuse for not having a real fullscreen option in the VNCviewer.
If thereīs one phone without the lack of keys it would be the n900 because of the hardware keyboard.
Donīt think Iīm trying to diss you or something like that.
Iīm just expressing my thoughts and I think the VNCviewer kan be a lot better.

Does it work with Windows 7, or doesnīt that make any difference?
