sudo gainroot should work too...

It might be that something has happened to your sudoers file.
Possibly try uninstalling and re-installing, or if you're happy just using 'root' then feel free to just use that.

How kan I uninstal them because the applicationmanager cant uninstal rootsh?

There is an advantage to just typing root. It will use any customizations that you do to the root profile should you do that in the future. My opinion, it is doing root for you. Stop before it's broken!

I've enabled root access to check out some things, but as it has been more than 6 years since I've used linux extensively, I wish to disable it.

Uninstalling the rootsh did not suceed. Any suggestions on how to disable root access?

I had to type "sudo gainroot" again to install using dpkg -i *.deb
It asked me for a password if I used sudo dpkg -i *.deb
