I appreciate having some gaming function, but the current emulators are kind of weak compared to the Android ones:

1. More games work and play smoother on the G1 (528mhz)
2. Zip files work, so saves about 75% of the space
3. Games index so the directory is available at start up
4. Control settings for diagonal movement
5. Better sound
6. You can type letters and the index will shift to what you type
7. Also have a Genesis emu that works great
8. MAME (.34/35b) and full Final Burn that plays most Neo geo, Capcom CPS1 & 2 and Cave shooters.

No comparison. All of the emulators play games better on slower hardware and with Android overhead. The only exception is the SNES one, since the N900 plays "3D" games like Mario Kart smoother than on the G1 and Droid.

My guess is the N900 should play even better and play a lot of MAME and Neo Geo, Capcom CPS2 and Cave games well too. I will send a note to the devs- FWIW.

Doesn't the Android platform require java code?

All of the emulators use a lot of C++, but some java is used to accommodate the framework. The dev explained it better and more correctly (of course). I will ask them. There are three devs.

The only common process is they all leveraged C++ as much as possible and said that it would have been impossible to play smooth and with sound adhering strictly to the SDK.

I think the android emulators on the marketplace are made by yongzh and are closed source.

Is there seriously no working GBA emulator on the N900 yet? Emulators and the browser are basically the whole reason I bought one.

There is a decent GBA emulator, but it appear to have no way to map diagonal controls, no zip support and plays a lot of 2G games like the M@rio games unplayable slow.

Gameboid (GBA emu on Android) plays great even on the G1 when clocked at 528mhz.

I appreciate they are closed apps, but perhaps we could get the devs to support Maemo?

Yeah I own a G1 right now, Fedex guy tried to deliver my N900 today but nobody was home :O

Not knowing what kind of guy Yongzh is, I'd be willing to bet he has no interest in maemo because there's no money to be made. Though I'd very gladly pay 5$ per emulator if they were coded well. (15 for an n64 emu!)

First person to code a polished GBA emu for the N900 gets a 20$ donation from me towards future projects, hey?
