My n900 is a fortnight old, and has yet to spontaeously reboot. Nor does it have any other problems. I have had exactly one programme crash, and that was something loaded from extras-devel, so serves me right.

My battery has never yet failed to last a whole day, with a constant connection either to wifi or gps - though my gps signal is faint and intermittent, which works the device and battery hard.

Flash video can be much improved by making sure your cache is set to 40 (reminds me - is there a wiki page on that?).

Most of the complaints are either from people who have had iffy devices (every manufacturing process will produce a few) or from people who assumed more phone functionality than is currently included. I'm not sure what is causing the intermittent reboots: it might be worth doing a bit of research to find out what people were doing when the device rebooted.

If you are looking for a super-duper, all-functionality, do-everything and have every app phone, try something else. And come back to maemo in eighteen months or so when maemo6 devices are here.

If you want to part of the growing process from the ground up, and are willing to live with a device and platform that isn't yet fully mature, then get a n900.

Enjoying the N900 for a week now w/o a single crash or reboot. With my kind of usage (Daily: ~3hrs listening to mp3s, 30mins 3G surfing, 30mins Wifi surfing, some phone calls, some texts and 1hr skype + 30-60mins just exploring the phone), battery lasts usually 2 full days.

Still trying to figure out some Maemo / Linux specifics (being a Maemo newbie), but getting more and more excited about the device each day....

I wouldn't say so

Code:
~$ uptime
09:57:23 up 6 days, 11:06, load average: 0.03, 0.02, 0.00
And the last boot was because of empty battery. I've had 0 unexpected reboots.

thanks for all the replies, it was very helpful.
Eventually, I will go for the N900 it seems like the best choice to me, the most attractive device and OS.
I see a great community here, and i'm sure all those little annoying problems are going to be solved, so I will wait for the price to drop a bit and for things to clear up, probably a few months, until then I'm pretty much fine with my E65.

How come people never seem to understand that the N900 is not competing with the iPhone and as of such is not an "iPhone killer" and doesnt try to be..

I think you're wrong..maybe nokia isn't yet addressing the n900 as its main device but yet it was created and designed with lots of looks and comparisons towards the iphone - with a clear intention to beat it.
Nokia might advertise and brand it as a "mobile computer", but we all know it's actually a smartphone.

You might also want to look here

to see the real extent of the problem. I think it is encouraging, Especially since the forums can be argued to be enriched for people with problems in their devices.
I've had mine for more than a week and had no problems whatsoever.

I dont really see a difference between the US and the european version in the poll, seems the same.
I am from europe, but it is not yet availible in the UK store, only in the US. Sure thing i'm not going to order from italy, seems like most of the problematic devices are there.

I've had the device for three weeks no. No device crashes and no spontaneous reboots. Doesn't happen on a properly working N900. If it happens to you several times a day, you should have it replaced or fixed.
