As this is on a similar note to a thread I asked a question in but no one replied I think this is appropriate for this thread. Please forward me elsewhere if it has been previously discussed.

Can you password protect folders. For similar reasons to the OP there are certain pics I don’t want my friends seeing. Can I just copy these into a separate folder than the default location and password protect it?

Copying to another folder should stop the issue of the image viewer picking it up and password protecting it should stop any prying eyes that discover the folder.

Could someone let me know if this is correct? Being a mobile computer I had hoped this was possible

i believe you can configure tracker to "ignore" certain folders.
this would therefore allow you to specify a folde rwhich was visible in the file manager, yet would not have its photographs shown in the image viewer by default.

someone else can follow up, but I filed a bug recently about tracker and found this setting buried within one of its config files.

If you are using mass-storage mode for transfers, make a directory starting with a dot (.my-precious-files) and copy files there. Tracker does not look at such folders.
