    Hi,

It is quite easy to install. The instructions are spot on, just make sure you spell everything the way you see it.

Also, I initially had a problem once I got things installed. It would not start, so I uninstalled everything, and reinstalled all the components again, but this time one by one. After each install, I started GAIM to see if it would run and it did. It is a very good port and works so far without any problems. I use it for Yahoo as well, and it is very handy.

    Good luck.

Thanks. I did look at that, but didn't quite get it. Figured it out now. Seems to work great. I would like to make it full-screen as well, but that's a minor complaint.

Is there a big advantage to using GAIM over using GTalk to get to AIM contacts? My AIM contacts work fine in the Native Google Talk chat client.

Not sure if anyone's encountered this: my AOL account would not work at first, although MSN and irc did. I noticed the latter two had their account types greyed out, but AOL's was not. I deleted the account, reinstalled it, and it worked fine.

Thanks for all you comments! Here's the (wish/bug)list I have gathered so far:

    - Fullscreen windows (conversations at least. Buddy list too ?)
    - Working browser connection (Thanks for the dbus-send find!) I think I can implement the dbus-send stuff inside gaim and provide a new option called "OSSO Browser"
    - I can try to reproduce the crash caused by receiving a message while typing on the fullscreen keyboard
    - minimize to "system tray". I'm not sure what this means. I don't want to create a "system tray" icon, because the "system tray" (on the top right, between the window title and the minimize/close buttons) can easily become crowded. You might have noticed that you cannot quit gaim by closing the buddy list. I "stole" this idea from maemo-gaim, because I think that the panel icon can play the role of a system tray icon.
    - The debug window needs a close button

I used the nix18 version a lot today and had zero crashes. I thought you fixed something since the previous release!

I think the "system tray" comment came from one of the options in the preferences screen. If that option is not used then maybe better to remove from the preferences.

Thanks for all the development of this

A small issue i got: tapping a group name folds the group list, but ttapping again does not unfold. Only way i found to unfold is to use hardware key.
    Big progress otherwise.

what is the trick to get it work?
I followed install instruction from http://gaim.garage.maemo.org/
    with blue and redpill mode.
and tried install direct from debs, but every time same answer,
    "unable to install gaim"

edit: I removed old 1.5 gaim and removed even /home/user/.gaim dir before trying to install new one.

rheve: I know. I can't figure the folding thing out. I have a few suspicions, and I will try them one-by-one, after I implement all the items on the TODO list. The hardware key is a good idea though. I was tapping-and-holding on it, and then cancelling the popup menu

pumo: Have you added the Maemo Hackers repository ? If so, you can install a package called "becomeroot". Follow the instructions here:
    http://maemo.org/maemowiki/HowTo_EASILY_BecomeRoot
When installing osso-xterm, however, make sure you get the Maemo Hackers version, not the actual Bora version. You can tell them apart, because the Maemo Hackers version has the letters "mh" in the version number.

Then, find the terminal in "Extras", run it, and type
    sudo gainroot
    apt-get install gaim

This is basically what application manager does behind the scenes. Unlike with application manager, however, you should receive a message that tells you what's actually failing. You could post that message here, or it may even be helpful enough for you to figure out how to get gaim installed.
