Anyone know how long Nokia Messaging is going to remain free?
the first time i've got the email saying that NM was a trial service was almost a year ago on my E71 and it is still free so i would not worry too much about it. I have read in a couple of blogs that Nokia is not actually planning to charge costumers directly but to someday maybe allow carriers to charge for the service in some kind of Nokia data plan. All I know is that it has been free for a while and Nokia doen't seem to be changing that any day soon...
I have no problems with email from two other providers, but 1 Gmail and another Gmail hosted email account are giving me problems-
In relation to the standard Gmail account- as I typically check my mail with Apple Mail, messages are not marked as read when I check the account in my browser- the n900 mail app attempted (and actually managed after about an hour!) to tell me I had 13k+ new messages. However, every time I tried to open an email, the mail app would freeze- I assumed it was trying to download all those messages (but prayed to god that it was not!). So I deleted the account (on the n900) then marked all unread emails as read (using Gmail browser interface) and tried setting up on the n900 again- this time it correctly reported no new email messages--- but the same problem- every time I try to open an email- the app freezes. I can't seem to find any settings that would manage new mail retrieval... anyone else?
(With the hosted Gmail account, I can access no problem, but cannot send email)
Ok one problem I have which I have searched and have been unable to find a solution for is:
When using Nokia Messaging for gmail, when I delete a mesage from my Inbox, it gets deleted from the server as well. I would like to turn this feature off. Is there an option for this that I have missed?
In addition to this, I haven't yet managed to archive my emails (on the gmail server) through Nokia messaging, haven't found an option for that either, even though I have selected All Mail on the Nokia Messaging website.

I am having the same issue i really wish there was a way around it.
When I the downloaded file, it says:
Select an application form the list to open file 'Nokia'
How to go ahead from here?
No need to download any software, its already inbuilt.
Go to Email and choose to create a new account. Click next (it will search for services).
Then click on "Service Provider" field (currently say Other) then choose "Nokia Messaging"
I have a regular gmail account that is my primary email account. All of my contacts/calendar are associated with that account. I need to be able to sync email, calendar and contacts...this is the highest priority.
I also have a few domains setup with google apps that I would also like to be able to check email for.
My work also has an exchange server that would be nice to just check email from (no calendar, contacts, etc), but I don't think it has IMAP enabled.
My assumptions/questions, please give any advice/input:
I will have to use MFE for my main gmail account so that contacts and calendar can be synced. Is there any other way?.
I will only be able to sync the primary calendar associated with my main gmail account. Is there any way to sync additional calendars?
I can then use either an IMAP connection for the other google apps domains or should I set them up with Nokia Messenger?
I will not be able to sync with my work email at all since I'm only allowed one Exchange account.
You can use Nuevasync (nuevasync.com). It syncs contacts, Calendar with Google and email with any email provider with IMAP.
Nuevasync acts as an Exchange sever so you have to configure it as such. check their site for more details.
Its a free service for contacts and calendar but paid for emails
The only issue I'm facing right now are that it syncs only 2 weeks of email.

have you got Sync Inbox option set?
This lives in Email-> Edit Account->Nokia Messaging->service Info
I have been using NM for a while on my previous phone and it always worked well.
When i switched to the n900 I encounter one small issue.
If i delete it off the device it then deletes it off gmail also.
Does anyone know how to prevent that from happening?
I am using IMAP i believe (i checked my nokia messaging account online, thats what it said.)
But i cannot seem to prevent it from deleting it off gmail also.
Deletion from device triggering deletion on server is how IMAP is upoosed to work. If you don't want to have this link you will need to change to POP3 instead which is a polled service.
