i havnt heard this one before. simple send back i suppose?

there is also a video out there on youtube of a guy called tehkseven. he disassembles the entire device. if you feel like fixing it yourself you should check that out.

also try sliding the keyboard 20 times or so in and out and see if it works after that. but youve probably tried that already.

your advice is unwelcome its almost like saying if you had an itch scratch it. Pointless advice

Not really. There is the random crashing bug and by not sliding in the keyboard and using the device for a longer time to see if it crashes would confirm if the OP suffers from the same bug or if this is a different one. If it is a different one then it would point to the device having another serious bug for some users.

Just got my new N900, and tried to start using it this weekend.

And I have a very annoying problem, to say the least :

Each time I slide the hardware keyboard back in, the device shuts completely down. I cannot reactivate it by sliding the screenlocker buttion on the right, nor by pressing the on/off button on the top, and then sliding the screenlocker on the screen. Even a startup is not possible by pressing the on/off buttion for a couple of seconds.

My device completely has shut down, and the only thing I am able to do is to put on the mains charger in the device, then slide out the keyboard again, and then I see NOKIA appearing (without backlight) on my screen. After that I'm able to startup the device again, and use it normally, until I close the keyboard again, and it crashes again.

Any of you guys met the same problem ?
Send it back, mate. Mine did this (as well as doing it after doing everything else) - until it finally bricked. Repairers couldn't fix it so it is going back now. Don't waste 2 weeks trying to sort it out like I have. I had mine for 3 hours before it died. Your device is new. Make sure it's working properly is my advice.

Don't worry, they will take you seriously. this has been too common a problem with their earlier devices for them not to. Also, it was probably about a week and a half between mine freezing and me getting a new one-(including taking it to the repairers AND sending it back to MPD) which is fine now. Call them tomorrow and ask them what to do. If in doubt- email Karl Borges. Where was yours from?

Check the little pins on your battery. If they are not close enough together in each slot the sudden jolt of the keyboard opening can make one of those slots loose contact with the power terminals inside your N900.
I had this problem with my N95 8GB. Sometimes when I slid it open it would reboot. It's the contact from the battery to the power terminals inside.

Try taking your battery out and look at those metals contacts are they far apart?
Take a little needle and press them tighter together so that they hug the power terminals inside the N900 better. You want a tight fit.

I've only used my n900 for 20 minutes and I noticed this happening on mine. It only happened once but it was odd. I pushed the keyboard back in and the screen went dead, couldn't activate it or anything so I slid the keyboard out and the screen came on, back to the screen I was on. Could be what aironeous said though...
