My mother used to say "I want doesn't get".

    Please don't be so impatient.

lol then I would say "I NEED IT" its a pain when you have the N95 and yet you can't use it as a torch. Which was a downside and now N900, I am hoping its possible very soon.

please tell me how you would get round the complex usability issue of the camera application getting in the way when you open the slider.
we know the LEDs are technically capable of being controlled, but its just finding the right UI to make them work from a users' perspective and I'm sure people are working on it.
for now, install liqtorch or something else from extras-testing and be patient.

Lcuk - is liqtorch basically stable? Cos if so, I'll add it to my portfolio and get it installed and voted.

    @lcuk
nah buddy, extras-testing still in beta mode. We will need a proper tested software. I don't want to break my device lol like it did to others. Only trusted software will be installed

Lcuk is the creator of liqtorch. If he says it's stable, it's stable. Maybe not very tidy round the edges, but stable. I already have one of his apps from testing and it's great.

    maxximuscool,

you are right, applications in extras-testing are not fully tested.
but how do they become tested without people willing to test them and rate them yourself?

the guys writing their apps are generally around to help if you do have problems, just ask in here

They put in hard work to create many good applications, some of them may be marginal in places and could do with help in others, but they are created with the best of intentions.

liqtorch is in extras-testing now, and as Kathy says my apps are rough around the edges (some plainly dont work at all ) but I use the torch every single day to help me to bed.

its sat as an icon on my desktop and I can turn the screen white and off again when I need.
i close the application when I am safely in bed, and it doesnt cause me to do anything odd.
it has never wiped my battery nor caused me to call strange people, and it does nothing more than guide me to bed.
use it if you like, and if it passes the quality tests, please rate it up.

thank you for your help testing this app

I've installed liqtorch - and it's working just fine for me. I'll use it for a day or two and then you'll get a vote.

You might want to have a look at this bug, dealing with preventing the camera application from automatically opening when the slider is opened. https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6929

Someone may want to create a bug report (enhancement) specifically dealing with controlling programmatically the LEDs for use in torch/lighted video mode. Also adding the term "flashlight" to the discussion, so the Yankees can find it.
