Hmm... what would work great would be the Volume rocker for left right... then you just need to do a up down button on the keyboard.

wtf you guys. firstly you can remap on any emulator if you bothered your arses to have a look instead of trying for 10 secs and then come on here winging. drnoksnes its even in the options bar and this is still pre release. Any other emulator can be remapped and edited very easiliy if you cannot be bothered to have a play with the thing and find out just google how to remap hard keys on either this site (3 came up when i triied) or other n900 enthusiast blogs. Experiment and develop this is what open source is about. If you dont like something make your own to suit your needs the info and how 2s are out there.Stop winging and get writing.

Yes, but no way to map diagonals.

I have mentioned that one before- the issue for the SNES emu is no way to map diagonals and the others no practical way. Works fine for Mr. Do though- all right angles

I would rather pay someone for their professional efforts like the Android devs. Their apps are worth paying for too. I will gladly pay for the same level on the N900. Until then, I will happily play them all on the G1. At 528mhz, almost all games for all systems play perfectly with sound.

There are some fun card games at some Flash sites that play great launching from the file manager (no need to use the site if you save them through Firefox). A quick search will show you how easy it is to save them in Firefox and play them on the N900

I have Texas Hold em' black jack, rummy, five card poker and solitaire. They are not too cpu hungry either.

2. Contra, Tecmo Bowl, Mario, Blades of steel, Bionic Commando, Gradius, etc are NOT playable without diagonals. Still, even with these games it is too easy to press the start button.

Unless you stick to Dig Dug, Mr Do, Galaga, Pac Man etc where only left to right or right angle movements are required.

Two questions not yet answered:

1. Why were these designed without diagonal mapping? D-pads on the other Maemo devices?

2. Why did Nokia show diagonal mapping in an overlay for the infamous 30 second video, but there are no diagonal- why show this?

If the keys were orientated like the G1's- no problem, since you can press two keys to get diagonal movement and not press other keys.

We may be no better off with the Pandora apps, since they are designed for a d-pad, so will probably also map to the control keys by default.

Could be a long dry spell for decent old school gaming on the N900. Ironic that I use my G1 for emulators when the N900 should be playing that role.
Mate - I have watched thread after thread from you be posted about the emulators - and as a rule I am fairly indulgent of them - but it honestly seems like you don't need a phone - but more

http://www.nintendo.com/ds

The N900 really never made any claims to be a gaming platform of any kind. I am sure the emulators will improve - but really if thats the only reason for having the phone I think you may be better with the droid.

Nope- want it all. Already have a DS, PSP, Dingoo and G1 for games.

Droid is missing as many things as the N900- both offset each other in a way, but N900 handles and stores more media, so wins out.

If I dump the N900, it will be due to the weak 2G signal where I live and the N900 not handling it well. Tmobile waived my contract obligations since they agree something is wrong in my area. Still, G1 works in the problem areas- barely, but works for calls.

Not to Hijack the thread - but I had an interesting experience re signal today. Went into Walmart and I swear it was if they were running some sort of jammer the second I entered the store - signal went from full to nothing within 10 feet.

Then went into local Barnes and Noble which every other phone I have had has found impossible to get a signal in and had full bars.

Buggered if I know why.
