Overriding headphone antenna for FM radio?

It is a poetic question only: if I want to listen to the FM radio via the built in speakers what if I cut the headphones off (for less interference) of the plug-in headphone (so that the antenna piece aka. long wire still remains plugged in) and somehow override the function that currently cuts off the built in speaker if something is plugged in?

Would I then be able to listen to FM radio on the speakers?

Or maybe the N900 already senses that if there is no substantial resistance at the end of the wire it keeps the sound coming from the built in speakers? (ie maybe it thinks that the headphone is not plugged in or broken)

Anyone care to try? (You don't have to cut your N900 headphones, any old stuff would do)

In the last version of the FM radio software, you can choose whether you want the sound to output on the headphones or on the speakers.
    No need to cut anything

I haven't tried it, but I suppose cutting off would work. All the FM radio needs are the wires in the cable. Instead of cutting off you could also use a simple 3.5mm headphone jack extension cable without headphones attached (I'm using such a cable as antenna on my N800 radio alarm clock).

I wonder if you can get a 3.5mm jack plug with a telescopic antenna fitted?
