If I were to buy the n900 in the US, other than the warranty, would I have any problems in using it in the UK?

nop every N900 is unlocked and the same both hardware and software. But may be you might want to reflashing it to global firmware. 
but nothing really effect your usage within UK with the US N900.

I live in the US and took my US Version N900 to Germany this past week on a business trip. I had no problems using it, and it picked up a 3G signal everywhere...
