I would like to know what is the fastest way to copy large amount of data to N900 over WiFi. Using scp with OpenSSH server on N900 over WiFi gives transfers close to 1MB/s. Transfers over USB can be up to 8MB/s. Do you know a faster way to copy files over WiFi?

scp will use a lot off cpu for encryption. That's ok if you copy files over the public internet. Otherwise ftp may be much faster.

How bout a very low tech solution? You have a MicroSD card slot: Copy the files from source machine directly to the card then plug it in the N900.

http is just as efficient as ftp once the transfer has started.. The advantage is you can use the built in browser to pull stuff down..

FTP has the overhead of needing a client and a server.. http servers are numerous and it has a browser built in... easy win.. but only for downloads

Here's a nice little python script for serving files over http without all the hassle of setting up a real server. Makes it incredibly easy on systems with python, (ie linux). http://www.linux.com/archive/feature/60098

If your file is not compressed (won't apply to almost all big files like music, video, ...) then it's worth using the -C (compress) switch to scp.

Useless, but true!

Do you know where the .conf is located? I googled and checked both /etc/proftpd.conf and /usr/local/etc/proftpd.conf

Edit: Found it.
