I installed it using the Maemo Extras-Devel. if you just wont install these apps then:

Open aplication manager and add a new application catalogue and type exactly as follows.

    Catalogue name : maemo extras-devel
    web address : http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel
    distribution : fremantle
    components: free non-free

    then save.

Word of warning though this area is for testing and apps could brick your device.

Also you have to install zeemote before you can install drNokSNES.
Just use the search function in the app manager.

drNokSNES is removed from Extra already.

Here is a way to manually install .deb files via the terminal.

A word of warning you will have root access and if you don't know what you are doing you can really screw up your device.

Also, be careful using or installing applications that have not been throughly tested as they could potential brick or otherwise harm the N900.

    1) Download armel.deb files to a temporary directory
    2) Open a terminal window
    3) type "sudo gainroot" then press enter
    4) use "cd" to change to the directory you downloaded to (the memory card is "cd /media/mmc1/")
    5) dpkg -i drnoksnes_1.2.4_armel.deb (replace with the whatever filename you downloaded).
    6) once the install is complete type "exit" then press enter
