If it would be possible to disable the camera, maybe then it would be also possible to check the lightness level from the sensor. If the surroundings are lit -> start camera automatically. Otherwise, the camera or flashlight could be switched on from the status bar.
I cannot get this Flashlight to work on my device at all. It some what disappeared completely after the installation. It won't show up as widget applet. I reinstalled like 10times and restart my device over and over. But no dice..

I had it installed "on my original 900" from 2 weeks ago, and I just received my replacement today. I DL'd "both" versions of the applet in "extras-dev" (...armel.deb), but whenever I click on either, it just prompts for "which application to open".
Neat. I recall talking about this on #maemo, but what came up was twofold.
1. Camera app interference.
2. Driving LEDs safely. From what we've determined, LEDs are only rated for 320 mA for .5 seconds, and 50mA continuous. Does this drive the LEDs at full brightness, or at safe levels for continous?
0.2 does not show up in the status menu for me either.
Regarding the UI, I don't think the status menu makes much sense. Instead, when a user opens the camera cover, there should be a prompt asking if you want to use the camera or flashlight functionality. Or be able to switch to the flashlight from within the camera app.
Why they called it TORCH...it's not even cool..it's just a white blank screen. I thought i'll be seeing a TORCH WITH FIRE>
Well, because some people like to call everything that light up as torch.. I guess. EG: apple Iphone 3GS lol.
Iphone 3GS User: " oh look at my torch application.. Can your N900 do that? look at my screen is lighting up really bright at night.." lol
Me: "LOL>>> *Silently whisper *******... "
Seriously, Roman created a LED app for N900 and we don't even showing it off. What give the Iphonefanatic to be so happy with their blank screen brightness?
