The N900 wasn't connected to the PC when I typed dmesg or when I was in media player or the file manager. The only time i had it connected to the PC was when I transfered a file to the phone to see if it wwould show up. It didn't, and it was also then I diiscovered that there already were mutiple files on it that I couldn't see. BVut called the helpdesk yesterday and they told me to send the phone back for service, so will hopefully get back a fully functioning phone soon.

I got that same error when i was updating my applications list after i manually added extra-testing repository. Phone was connected to a computer by mass storage option. Then i tried to update that list while phone was off from computer. Same again. Now trying to update by apt-get.

And now it says this in the log:

    Code:
    hildon-application-manager 2.2.35-3
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/apt/lists.new/lock - open (2 No such file or directory)
    -----
    Uninstalling amazon-installer 1.0+0m5
E: Lists directory /var/lib/apt/lists/partial is missing.
    -----
    Uninstalling amsn 0.98.1-1
E: Lists directory /var/lib/apt/lists/partial is missing.

First one is from when i try to refresh lists in application manager.. Second and third from when i try to remove something. So apt lists are somehow locked?

Solved this one by myself clap-clap. After scrolling down several linux pages: I decided to make that lock -file and after that it didn't find some other directory, made that aswell. Now it's working. Hope this helps others.

Been lurking for a while, getting to know the N900 and finally ordered it on the 29th Dec. Got my N900 today, all excited, switched on the n900 and connected the charger, set the language, time and date and then almost immediately got the "Internal error. Application 'Web' Closed" error message!!

I've installed rootsh to get "sudo gainroot" to do a "apt-get clean", but no joy.

The potential error from dmesg, is that it says my sd device needs updating? I've got a 16GB class 6 microsd installed.

    Anyone any ideas?

    Cheers.

    update:
also just noticed there's no theme in the background, and trying to change it does nothing?
Hope this doesn't mean I have to flash the device already?

Tried the camera and it can't save images due to "unable to access internal memory".....

I had that issue when I first got my phone, check in the camera app where the phone is saving images. Also a restart sorted out my other memory issues.

( I have however had the out of memory unable to send messages error since - a restart fixed this issue too).

no joy unfortunately. The camera app doesn't allow me to change where to save images, it's grayed out...
Reset to default settings and rebooting had no effect either....I feel a reflash coming on.

I'm not adverse to hacking, but it's such a shame to get something I've wanted for ages and to get these problems out of the box.

I had the memory problems to, but the cause is that when you simply unplug the N900 from your pc (without Eject or save hardware removal) the phone can sometimes think it is still connected. (only had this problem connected to Windows machines) Linux gives no issues. But simply turning your phone off and on again will solve this.

NOTE: if you haven't found this out allready the N900 locks the access to your N900 HDD and Flash Card when connected to a pc as mass storage mode. Disconnecting the nokia without the Eject or Save Removal option (Windows) can cause the Memory access. This wil only be solved after a reboot of your phone.

P.S. the N900 has roughly 900MB storage to install apps, i doubt that anyone can get that full within 2 weeks.
