What does the leftmost icon on the X terminal in maemo5 do? The one that is a
leftward-upward arrow that toggles with and without a red crossout line?

It enables copy and paste. I had been wondering the same and finally tried it today.

After you press it, you can highlight text, then tap the dropdown menu at the top of the screen, and push the copy button.

I didn't wonder about the icon, but I've had a need for copy-paste several times. Thanks.

the same button can be seen in the web browser by swiping from the left (off screen) to the right (on screen) and clicking it enables highlighting and copy paste. just in case somebody didn't know.

Cut/Copy/Paste works with Ctrl+X/C/V on hardwarekeyboard in the whole system...

swipe your finger from the outside left of the screen (where the small LED light is) towards the centre of the screen. a small arrow button will appear where your finger or stylus entered the screen. click this arrow and a red slash will appear on it. now you can highlight whatever you want and press Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste.

if you perform the same swipe off the screen towards the centre from the right side of the screen you get the browsing history. like the button in the url bar..

Wow. This so doesn't work for me. All I get is the screen moving to the right, then it snaps back to centre once I take my finger off the screen.

Going the other way gives me the browsing history, that's always worked.
