just a quick one.I downloaded an app from extras devel and then deleted it and now the catalogues dont refresh.Sorry if it sounds newbie but cant figure out why.Are the distribution and components the same because some of these fields are missin?.

try disabling the extra devel repo and then refresh the list and then enable it again.. i think this will solve your issue

i allready deleted the devel repo before the problem started cos i only wanted it for one app so you say put it back on and take it back off again?

ok... you can try with disabling other repos... disable extras and then refresh the catalog....

The older fix for this sort of problem is to go to the command line.

Become root. If you don't know what that means, find out before going further.

As root, run apt-get update

If you get error messages, you will often get instructions for how to fix the problem -- for example, using the -f parameter.

Maybe it was my imagination, but there seemed to me to be improvements in how the apt-get process worked on the N900, meaning that fixes like adding -f actually fixed the problem!

If you can't solve the problem, the error messages you get when running apt-get update are handy things to post when asking for help.
