    A forum for developers

Would it make sense to have a forum created here for developers? Such a forum would be aimed at getting people started in developing applications for the n770/n800. I think there are a lot of people who have extensive coding experience but have never done it for this device. I personally do not know where to start to get a graphic application running. I don't even know what 'hildon' is but I see it all the time. I have several apps in mind that I have written for other platforms that I would like to implement on the Nolia. My guess is that there a lot of others out there who would like to do something similar but need help in getting started. Ultimately, the community can only benefit from this.

Maybe internettablettalk is not the right place for this but I didn't see anything appropriate at maemo.org. The forum I have in mind would allow experienced developers to help newbies along with sample code and on issues of getting a development environment set up for available software languages.

Comments or suggestions? If something like this exists already, please point me to it.

    Hey rhackenb,

Probably the best place I've stumbled upon for Maemo development is the "Gossamer-Threads" forum:

    http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/maemo/

There are plenty of good threads on all aspects of Maemo development and many of Nokia's engineering team regularly post replies to developer queries. Hope that helps you out!

Of course it makes sense-- which is exactly why Reggie already created the Developers section toward the bottom of this forum.

Unfortunately there's not much activity in the developer section.. if you post something there at best you'll be redirected to the maemo-developer's list, which is a good list to follow but I can't be bothered to join _another_ mailing list. I'm on way too many as it is already. So I stay there in read-only mode. Some more activity here on this forum would be nice though. We're here anyway already aren't we..

    Have you gone here yet?

    http://maemo.org/community/getting-involved.html

The mailing lists are really good.

    Tim

Update: I just checked out the Gossamer Threads site and it's basically just a forum-formatted version of the Maemo mailing lists.
