Nokias have a built in failsafe - you probably had Steve Jobs in your contact list.

You may want to consider trading it for a Droid or 3GS.

You probably do need to reflash -- it's the default thing to do when you have big probs and want to start over from scratch when it was a sunny day and you were happy.

I'm not sure where the user-friendly guide to flashing is; what you were referred to is not it! I have had other tablets but am new to the N900. Look in your manual under flashing and use the Nokia proprietary software for flashing, for best results, I think.

I haven't flashed mine yet so I am not sure exactly where the instructions are. It's something you need to know, anyway.

Here's a link to a good tutorial in the Nokia Support Forum on reflashing your N900 written by cpitchford, who also contributes here.

Be aware that your problem may be defective hardware and if reflashing doesn't fix it, then it may need a warranty replacement. Seems maybe 5-10% of N900s have some kind of hardware problem. Sounds bad, but a 5% return rate is very common for a top-line smartphone. I've been fortunate and have had zero problems with mine.

That's some pretty heavy instructions including lots of other stuff. Check out a MUCH more easier way here:

Try this before reflashing!

That's a pretty heavy handed thing to have to do to your system though. There are ways around it!

In fact, in this case it seems almost certain he *doesn't* need to reflash, due to being at the "second dot", which sounds like the 17 reboots gets a brick bug.

Or even this easier procedure:

* take battery out
* insert USB cable (to boot device with charging boot reason)
* insert battery & put back cover back
* remove USB cable
