- give an insight to people considering a device upgrade (what ? easy-debian, my favorite, became available in fremantle extras ? Now I can buy a N900 !)
- to be able to compare just how 'alive' certain versions are
- some people have both devices (I usually keep my N810 in offline mode lately to maximize battery life, but go online if I see something nice for it in AppWatch on my N900)

I believe those are good enough reasons to have them there at least optionally

As for extras-testing, howabout adding support for voting apps up/down in the QA? doing it directly from the "installed extras-testing applications" list would be so much easier than navigating on the website..
With the current speed/reliability of maemo.org that's quite a gamble If/when maemo.org gains an API (or the requests do not time out), it will certainly be an option.

What you've done so far is very nice. This is an app I'll use a lot, and with the fixes you've already mentioned it'll become even better.

Thanks attila77 and Ivan.

Oooo i agree - similar to my post in the other thread
The more we could do from here, the more people would get involved in testing etc! - i for one struggle with maemo.org, fine with talk, just all the others confuse the hell outta me!

Sort of. The AppWatch package itself is, but Qt in the 1.0 firmware isn't. PR1.1 hopefully fixes that, too (boy do I sound like a broken record with this).

Are there plans to develop such an API? Since there is the expectation of improving maemo.org performance (the migration thing), this could indeed work.

As for installing apps and voting on them from Appwatch, that would be wonderful and very helpful: "Look, easy debian is already in extras-testing, let's install it (but only easy debian). Then let's vote and maybe comment on it...".

I particularly like your idea of enabling a repository, installing something (with the required dependencies) and disabling it in one operation. It would be much safer for the general users and more convenient for users that want only some app that is not available yet in the stable repos. They can even help with testing it if it is so easy to get it.

Thanks for your good work!

There is certainly going be an API, but it is very fluent, so ATM it's uncertain what exact functionality will be exposed through it.
