just been reading different bug reports and it seems people who installed it fresh are getting many problems like me, but ppl who have been following them a while and updating each build got no problems, the people who are following them and updating regular are most probable ppl to be reporting bugs so this is prime example how such big bugs get through easily

Getting the same behaviour with the "new releases" add-on in XP SP3, too.
Deleting the add-on folder from "Application Data\Songbird2\Profiles" allowed
me to launch.

It took a bit of tinkering but my install seems to have worked now.

If you already had songbird on your computer, MSC mode wont kick in as MTP wont let it install. I had to remove that addin and then browse and re-install MSC.

Following that, it prompted me to format and resync my music - i was a touch scared about doing so but jumped in anyway (i've got backups and can reflash if needed). It seemed to work all ok, all my music organised.

Playlists are currently missing and I read somewhere that will be fixed in an update of the MSC addin (or I did somit wrong!).

[system is windows 7 64bit and songbird 1.4.2]

Edit: I forgot the N900 would do its updating thing - after 5 or so mins all the playlists appeared so its sync seems to work good enough.

For some reason songbird only wants to transcode all of my mp3's into wma when I try to sync the N900. Is anyone else's unable to identify the N900's supported formats?

Hi, does anyone know how to solve this problem?

I installed songbird, imported my songlists from itunes and supposedly synched my n900. The problem is that even when the playlists are correct in songbird, they arent in the device. Why does this happen? Any suggestions?

EDIT: To be more specific, the lists are in the n900, but they dont have all the songs.

Blobster2k the creating of playlists on the N900 was doing my head in so I can't thank you enough for the link to Songbird. I installed it and created playlists and it synched with my N900 seamlessly.

Songbird worked alright for me with windows 7. It was the latest one as I downloaded it last night.

I did however have some problems, whether they are bugs or not I don't know but when I initially connected the n900 it wanted to prepare the device and then I synced a playlist and it deleted all the default music and ringtones.

The other issue and maybe it is just my settings or I need to do something differently is it dumps on the music in the data folder. It would be nice to specify what folder on the device you would like to send the library to along with the playlists.

Is there something I am missing with some sort of setting? I couldn't find where to change the output other then to put
artist/album/title but then that still dumps all the folders in the main directory.

Really stupid question but how do you connect your N900 to songbird? I have connected my N900 in both PC Suite Mode and Mass Storage mode, neither are recognised in Songbird..

PS Songbird runs fine on my Windows 7 x64 machine (however only running in Windows basic mode)

EDIT - sorted - installed MNC add-in - should be automatic surely! Anyway v nice.

I had it connected in mass storage mode and then fired up songbird and songbird recognized it right away.

Just got songbird today its v1.4.3 now have not synced it to the N900 not sure if I want too

For me drag & drop works just fine since the N900 is a mass storage device, but since the N900 supports all the meta data and cover art it has sent me on a quest to embed the proper cover art and update all my tags on my music.

I just used folders in windows, would find the folder for the music I want and tell it to play in winamp. This kind of use is almost just like mass storage so it was natural to me, but now that I have about 1/3 of my stuff with cover art and updated tags it feels like its "going to waist" just using winamp and browsing to a folder for my music.

So saw how songbird works with the N900 and noticed how it filters by meta data and shows cover art, and thats the reason I am using it right now. Still feels a bit akward and I have a lot of japanese music that there is no way I can tag but meh.

So that side story aside, what benefits do I get for using a syncing program like songbird instead of just drag & drop the music I want?

I have more than 32GB of music so it cant all fit in the N900 so it cant just "sync" my whole music collection to the device.

I think the biggest reason to use a program like songbird is for playlists. With the playlists in songbird then you can just sync the playlist that you want and the playlist shows up in the media player.

The biggest thing before using songbird to sync till they fix the bug is to do a backup of your phone and copy your sounds folder to your pc. Then create a playlist that will fit on the device and then sync away.

The other issue I had with songbird was that it just dumped the music into the MyDocs folder so I ended up with hundreds of folders in there instead of it all being in MyDocs/Music. I did find out though on the songbird forums that if you create a Music folder under the MyDocs folder that songbird will sync to it instead of just dumping it all into the MyDocs folder. I haven't tried it yet but I was going to try it tonight to see if it works.
