I'm currently following the Intel keynote liveblog on Engadget and I was surprised to learn that Nokia would be using Moorestown in their devices... What does that entail for the future of Maemo devices? I believe since that is an Atom CPU it will be x86,.. How exactly does that coexist with the ARM architecture currently used?

Nokia does make a netbook too. Did the announcement specify which devices?

Since Maemo is Debian, there should be no problem at all. Debian currently supports a lot of architectures from exactly the same code-base. It would be as possible to have Maemo/armel and Maemo/x86. In fact (I'm guessing here), that's what happens already

By far the simplest explanation = new Nokia Booklet 3G with Moorestown.

Moorestown is an even more cut down version of the Atom. If anything the next booklet 3g should run Pinetrail.

The Nokia/Intel partnership was already announced a while ago (and IIRC we had discussions here then about a possible Maemo device based on Intel hardware).

What I found much more interesting in the whole Intel keynote was the announcement of an LG-Smartphone built around Moorestown and Moblin.

Moblin, IMHO, is equal to Maemo if your primary interest is an OS that's built around the free software components you find on a GNU/Linux desktop. It remains to be seen how much LG cripples the platform for their phone, but still: For the first time since the sad OpenMoko episode I feel I have a choice when it comes to open pocketable devices. Until now, Nokia had a monopoly here. Things can only get better.
