I started to create a new twitter client using Python, with PyGTK and the twitter-python libraries. It started as a desktop application, but fortunately it ran in my N800 tablet too, so I'm starting to make little modifications to it so I can use it both in my machine and my tablet.
The interface is kind of geek-oriented... My long-term project is not having just a twitter client. I want to create some kind of emacs-like text editor over which we can develop all sorts of small applications. The idea is having this text-based interface but built with modern tools. Python instead of LISP, and made for graphical environments from start. I named the project "Zine".
Text-based applications are getting more and more difficult to use in graphical applications... I was very angry with my console twitter application, TTYtter, because I cannot run readline with unicode characters! Come on, it's almost 2010 already... Emacs can be built for the tablet, but it's hard to install. So I'm looking for something like these tools, but that won't have all the small incompatibilities with modern stuff. (TTYtter, btw, doesn't run on the NITs too.)
I am excited about bringing my program to maemo because right now we do have Mauku, but it has its issues. I love many aspects of it (I stole the message colors!
Zine twitter has a quite unfriendly interface. It works with text commands, like TTYtter. And right now there are no plans to fix that aspect... But it can do reply, and open urls.
Right now the page to get it is http://www.lti.pcs.usp.br/~nwerneck/zine. I would love to hear if anybody try out!...
