Does the "unlock button" (sliding button next to headphone port) not work for you?

How about a status bar widget that already does this task? (simple brightness applet)

your not getting wat i mean. say im playing a game or reading a webpage. or watching a movie. the screen shuts off when idle. i want to pause this energy saving feature. id even take a program. or a widget or both to stop this and also renable this when done. in the options you get a choice from 30secs to 2min with no off option.

I fully understand what you mean. This applet has a checkbox for keeping the screen lit.

just click on the brightness bar applet icon (next to the brightness update bars ) in your status window, you will get the option pycage talks about.
